Nissan’s recalls and flaws

We believe that auto manufacturers need to be held accountable, but it is still nice to see when they voluntarily recall a vehicle that is dangerous or not functioning properly. While no manufacturer is immune recalls and flaws, Nissan seems to be involved in more than most motor vehicle manufacturers.

Vehicles with the most recalls

According to data collected by Carcomplaints.com the Nissan models with the most recalls are:

  • Nissan Altima has been recalled 50 times.
  • Nissan Sentra has been recalled 43 times.
  • Nissan Pathfinder has been recalled 40 times.
  • Nissan Frontier has been recalled 32 times.
  • Nissan Maxima has been recalled 29 times.

Common reasons for recalls

Car manufactures ideally try to build cars that are consistently reliable, but sometimes they are consistently unreliable. Nissan’s most common reasons:

AEB suddenly stops vehicles for no reason: The automatic emergency brake has been known to become engaged by the vehicles’ forward-facing sensors when there is no obstruction on the road ahead, sometimes causing other drivers to hit the Nissan from behind.

Altima floorboards rust: The Altima models between 2002-2006 are known for gaping holes in the sedans’ floorboards, which were concave-shaped and did not drain water properly.

Exploding sunroofs: There have been multiple lawsuits (including one in California) accusing Nissan of improperly tempering its panoramic sunroofs for its luxury vehicles manufactured since 2008.

Lawsuits are sometimes necessary

Sometimes manufacturers do not recall a vehicle model with recurring problems until the complaints grow loud enough. During the time before the recall, it can be necessary to work with a knowledgeable Lemon Law attorney with experience handling Lemon Laws here in California. Far from singling out Nissan, we will also look at other manufacturers and their models from time to time to see how they measure up.
