BMW Oil Consumption

Do you own or leased a model year 2014 or newer BMW? Are you aware of BMW’s specifications for oil consumption in these vehicles?

According to BMW, these engines can use up one quart of motor oil every 750 miles. That means on every second or third time you fill up with gas, you would also have to add a quart of oil.

BMW confirmed this specification in a statement to Consumer Reports, but it was never disclosed to the consumers who bought and leased these vehicles.

BMW’s M vehicles can use even more oil — up to 2.2 quarts every 1,000 miles!

Ford Focus And Ford Fiesta Automatic Transmission

Takata Air Bags

More than 28 million vehicles in the U.S. have been recalled due to air bags manufactured by Takata, which can rupture and cause severe injury. At least 13 people worldwide have died due to this defect. Recently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that as many as 40 million additional vehicles with these air bags would be recalled.

The danger from these air bags is increased in older vehicles, and in climates with high humidity and high heat. The recalls include vehicles from Acura, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Honda, Infiniti, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Pontiac, Ram, Saab, Saturn, Subaru, Toyota and Volkswagen.

Many owners of these vehicles under recall have been told that parts are not available, and that it may take months or even years for the dangerous air bags to be replaced.

If your vehicle has been recalled for a Takata air bag, call us to discuss the status of the recall and your options under the law.

Upon notice of recall, bring the vehicle immediately to your dealer for replacement. Find out how soon the recall can be done. If you don’t feel safe driving your car in the meantime, the dealer should provide a free loaner vehicle until the air bag is replaced.
